Kevin Profitt - Assistant Program Director
Kevin has spent most of his 26 year radio career right here on 98fm KCQ. KP's first day at KCQ was the day a brand new (and then unkown) band was visiting the studio to promote an upcoming concert. That group was called Alabamba and that concert at the Saginaw Civic Center just days later drew less than 1000 people! KP was hosting a tour of KCQ listeners at Fan Fair in Nashville the day Garth Brooks received his first platinum album awards. He has taken part in WSAM Raft Races and was there when that event morfed into the present day KCQ Country Music Fest Free Concert. Alabama has since retired from country music but KP still keeps brining you Today's Best Country on 98fm KCQ.
Tune in to win playing KCQ Paul Harvey Pop Quiz with Kevin every day beginning at noon.

KP in The Wizard Of Oz!
The Wizard of Oz was my second play running October 13-15, 2006! It played to near sell out crowds each night and earned one of the most praise filled reviews ever to run in the Saginaw News.

Wow! Where did the time go?
Jan 27, 2010 -- 1:30pmI'm thinking it's been a few weeks since I updated my blog and when I look at the date on my last post I realize it's been since November 2009! Holy cow!
So what's new? That MGB I bought is at a friends shop in Midland getting some repairs that I'm just not skilled enough to carry out. If you ever need work done on any British car give me shout and I'll hook you up with this guys phone number. I've known him for almost 20 years and he does good work.
I've got a suggestion for your weekend plans... This Friday is KCQ Night at Zehnder's Snowfest and we are hosting the KCQ Karaoke Competition sponsored by Michigan Sugar beginning at 6pm. Afterwards there will be live music from Steel Wheelz on stage. Little tip - arrive before 6pm and pay no cover charge!
Then on Saturday or Sunday you can come to Pit & Balcony Theatre in Saginaw to see the play Five Women Wearing the Same Dress. It's about 5 bridesmaids at a southern wedding who mutiny against the bride and all hideout in maid of honor's bedroom while they dish dirt on the bride... men... and a few surprizes. It's an adult themed play so leave the kids at home for this one. If you're looking for something you CAN take the kids to see at P&B we have Jesus Christ Superstar coming up in May.
And don't forget our next KCQ 1 Nite Stand @ the Westown on February 5th. James Otto is the headliner with special guests The Carter Twins out of Nashville and mid Michiga favorites Sone Cold. Tickets are just $15 & $20 and are on sale at theWestown.com or at Lucky's Pub on Midland St. in Bay City.
Next time you see I'm slacking and not updating my blog call me on it! ;)

Thanksgiving (the day after)
Nov 27, 2009 -- 11:11amSo the Full Monty ended and BAM! We are involved in the fall ratings at the radio station and everyone is going in four directions at once at 100 miles per hour. Here's a bit of what I've been involved with in the past 6 weeks or so.
All summer long I had been actively looking for either a Fiat 124 Spider or an MGB sports car. A friend in high school had a Fiat Spider and somewhere or another I had access to an MG. I always wanted one of my own and figured now was as good a time as any. My search had been ongoing for about a year and I had actively been calling on owners and going to inspect cars all summer long. A week after The Full Monty ended I finally went to inspect a 1977 MGB in Freeland and there was no question about it, this car was going home with me. And it did! The seller was even nice enough to trailer it to my house. (It runs but it has been sitting for a couple years and it was just wiser to trailer it). Here it is as we left the sellers house.

Then there was all the excitement at the radio station. First Jim Kramer and Barb Sheltraw made their annual pilgrimage to Nashville where they broadast for two days prior to the CMA Awards and interview all of the stars. You can find the audio in our Media section where you'll hear the Q-Morning Crew chat with Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley, Taylor Swift, Darius Rucker, Reba McEntire and more!
While all of that was going on we launched our newly re-designed website. And not just KCQ's but the other stations in our family launched new sites too! You can visit JOE FM's site at www.973joefm.com or our AM/FM combo called The Bay at www.thebay104fm.com. It's the first time we've had all three sites get a make over at the same time. It was like juggling three elephants. Nobody get's hurt as long as they all keep moving.
As if that weren't enough, while ALL of that was going on, we were also keeping a secret! We had managed through our insder contacts to get a pair of tickets to the Garth Brooks coming-out-of-retirement concerts this December in Las Vegas. We then pulled some more strings and secured air fare and hotel accomodations and launched a huge promotion involving four sponsors with over 20 on-site registration locations and gave away a concert trip of a lifetime to Stacey Matuzak of Saginaw!
Now that the Las Vegas/Garth getaway has been given away we have two new promotions that will kick off Monday, November 29th. I can't tell you what they are today but they both involve Santa Clause and gifts.
Oh! And how could I forget! The U.S. Army asked us to help out with their big multi-player gaming event coming up December 12 at the Bay Citty Mall. They are going to network together a room full of computers and let people play the official U.S. Army computer game called "America's Army". There will be prizes given away to the winners and even free stuff just for signing up. The information is on the front of our web site (until 12/12/2009).
The Full Monty (2)
Oct 01, 2009 -- 12:44pmThere is a lyric from a song in this play that says "What am I doing here?" It runs through my head nightly. We are a week away from opening night as I write this and it's starting to sink in what we (I) will be doing on stage in front of 300 people each night. Yee-ikes!
We began using costumes (or lack of) a few days ago and let me just say for the record... being on a stage in your boxer shorts is not the most comfortable feeling. I'm just putting that out there in case you come to the show and think to yourself during that scene, wow he acts embarrassed really well!. It ain't acting!
We also learned this week that "the hat" is an indispensable part of our wardrobe. If you see someone lose their hat onstage... close your eyes!
And that's all I'm going to say about that.
Tickets are on sale now at the Pit & Balcony Community Theatre box office, by phone at (989) 754-6587 or online at www.pitandbalconytheatre.com.
Show dates/times are 8pm Friday and Saturday, October9 & 10, 16 &17 and 3pm Sunday, October 11 & 18.
The Full Monty!
Sep 05, 2009 -- 12:33pm
Well for better or for worse I have auditioned for... and landed a role in The Full Monty at
Pit & Balcony Community Theatre. At this writing we have completed our first full week of rehearsals and Just like with the Wizard of Oz, everyone has the feeling that each person cast is just right for their role. It feels right. Perhaps that is because the director for Monty, Michael Walling, also directed Oz and he just knows how to pick 'em.
I have been cast in the role of Harold Nichols, plant supervisor. The steel mill has shut down in this town and all the employees are out of work... including Harold... but he hasn't had the heart to tell his wife Vicki he's unemployed. As a result she's still going around planning trips, taking dance classes and livin' life large.
The whole town is in similar straights... Jerry is divorced and if he doesn't come up with his back support payments he will lose joint custody of his son Nathan. Dave is a large man who already has image issues but now that he's out of a job his feelings of self worth are also in the toilet. It doesn't help that his wife Georgie has found employment while he still struggles. Malcom lives at home with his mother... Ethan is just a lost soul and the retired "Horse" couldn't even keep his part-time job at McDonalds. They said he wasn't cheerful enough and scared the customers.
Pushed to these extremes the guys hatch a plan to earn some extra cash after seeing their wives and girlfriends flock to a Chippendales show. It's a rollercoaster ride of fun and laughs from that moment on.
Performances are Friday and Saturday evenings with Sunday matinee's on October 9, 10, 11 and 16. 17, 18. Tickets are $22.00 adults and $18.00 youths 12 and under. NOTE: this is an adult themed show and may not be suitiable for minors.
Tickets can be purchased at the box office located at 805 N. Hamilton, Saginaw MI 48602. Order by phone at (989) 754-6587 Monday - Friday, noon to 6:00 p.m. Or purchase online at www.pitandblacontheatre.com.
We are expecting two full weekends of sell out peformances so hurry and get your tickets before they are gone! The phones at the box office have been ringing steadily since ticket sales were posted on the marquee outside the theatre last week!
