Mid-Michigan Update: Trump Heads to NATO Summit, Gas Prices Drop, MSU Leadership Stays Put

Here's what's making headlines across Mid-Michigan and beyond.

President Trump Travels to Turkey for NATO Summit

President Donald Trump is traveling to Ankara, Turkey, for a summit of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). Upon arrival, he's scheduled to meet with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdo?an.

The summit continues Wednesday with a NATO working session, along with meetings between President Trump, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, and Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa. Before returning to Washington, President Trump is expected to hold a news conference.

Michigan Gas Prices Fall Below $4

There's some welcome news for drivers.

According to AAA, the average price of regular gasoline in Michigan has dropped 14 cents over the past week to $3.96 per gallon, marking the first time prices have dipped below $4 since April.

Gas prices are now 25 cents lower than they were a month ago, although they're still about 80 cents higher than this time last year.

Michigan State University President Staying Put

Michigan State University will be keeping its current president after all.

Kevin Guskiewicz has decided to remain at MSU, reversing an earlier announcement that he would leave for the presidency at Clemson University. Clemson officials said Guskiewicz chose to stay in East Lansing for personal reasons.

Bay City Extends City Manager's Contract

Bay City's leadership transition will take a little longer.

City commissioners voted 5-4 to extend City Manager Dana Muscott's contract until a new city manager is officially in place. Commissioners expect to finalize a contract with Richard Heyman within the next two to three weeks.

Sports Update

Team USA's run at the World Cup has come to an end after a 4-1 loss to Belgium. Belgium now advances to the quarterfinals, where they'll face Spain.

Closer to home, the Great Lakes Loons take on the Dayton Dragons tonight at Dow Diamond. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.

Expect plenty of sunshine today with a high near 86 degrees.

Tonight will be mostly clear with patchy fog developing toward early morning and a low around 63.

Wednesday stays sunny and warmer with a high near 89.

By Thursday, clouds increase with a 70% chance of showers and thunderstorms and a high around 86 degrees.
