When most people think of Lexington, Kentucky, they think of beautiful horse farms, world-famous bourbon, and die-hard Wildcats basketball fans.
But there's another group quietly running the city...
The cats.
For the second year in a row, Lexington has been named America's No. 1 cat-loving city, according to a new PetSmart study.
The rankings are based on cat adoptions along with purchases of cat toys, treats, accessories, and other pampering products. Apparently, Lexington's felines are living their best nine lives.

- Mount Juliet, Tennessee
- Spokane, Washington
- Plattsburgh, New York
- Falls Church, Virginia
- Daly City, California
- Alhambra, California
- Plymouth Meeting, Pennsylvania
- Fairless Hills, Pennsylvania
- Clarksville, Tennessee
Other cities making the Top 25 include Fort Collins, Colorado; Melbourne, Florida; North Canton, Ohio; Springfield, Illinois; Sioux City, Iowa; Kensington, Maryland; and Evansville, Indiana.
Wait... Lexington Loves Dogs, Too?
Here's where things get interesting.
Earlier this year, PetSmart also released its list of the nation's biggest dog-loving cities.
Lexington landed in the Top Four on that list as well.
Either the people of Lexington absolutely adore every furry creature... or the pets have figured out who's really in charge.
What About Michigan?
No Michigan city cracked this year's Top 25 for cat lovers, but anyone who's ever shared a home with a Michigan cat knows they don't really care about rankings anyway.
They're busy:
- Sleeping in the warmest spot in the house.
- Knocking things off the kitchen counter for absolutely no reason.
- Demanding dinner exactly 14 minutes early.
- Staring at absolutely nothing in the corner of the room at 2 a.m.
