Remember when people argued about pineapple on pizza?
Move over. The next great food debate has arrived...
Beans.
According to a new survey, 95% of Americans eat beans on a regular basis, proving they're no longer just something your grandma sneaks into chili.
Even more surprising? More than half of meat eaters say they'd happily replace meat with beans at least once a week.
Apparently, bean season is upon us.
Why Are Beans Suddenly So Popular?
People have plenty of reasons for joining Team Bean.
- 53% want to eat healthier.
- 41% want to save money at the grocery store.
- 40% are looking for more protein.
- 34% want to cut back on processed foods.
Translation:
Steak is expensive.
Beans are... not.
America's Favorite Beans
The winner?
Black beans, earning the love of 46% of Americans.
Next up:
- Pinto beans
- Kidney beans
- Chickpeas (garbanzo beans if you're feeling fancy)
- Navy and white beans
- Lentils
- Soybeans
Way down at the bottom?
Poor fava beans, followed closely by cannellini beans, which are apparently the vegetables of the bean family... everyone knows they're there, but nobody picks them first.
Beans Have Come a Long Way
Once upon a time, beans were the thing your parents made because payday was still three days away.
Now they're a trendy superfood with protein, fiber, vitamins, and enough recipes to fill an entire social media feed.
Who knew the humble bean would get such a glow-up?
The Real Question...
If America keeps eating more beans, there's one statistic the survey didn't measure...
How many people are making their pets leave the room after taco night?
