These 22 Legends Are Apparently on the Celebrity "Do Not Lose" List

We've had a rough year for beloved celebrities.

So, after the recent losses of stars including Dolly Parton and Tim Curry, BuzzFeed put together a list of older celebrities that we're all apparently not emotionally prepared to lose.

Basically, it's the celebrity version of putting your favorite antique in bubble wrap.

Here are some of the names on the list:

  1. Jane Fonda, 88, turning 89 in December

  2. Julie Andrews, 90, turning 91 in October

  3. Carol Burnett, 93

  4. Ian McKellan, 87

  5. Judi Dench, 91, turning 92 in December

  6. Morgan Freeman, 89

  7. Dick Van Dyke, 100, turning 101 in December

  8. Rita Moreno, 94, turning 95 in December

  9. June Squibb, 96, turning 97 in November

  10. William Shatner, 95

  11. Shirley MacLaine, 92

  12. Lily Tomlin, 86, turning 87 on September 1st

  13. Rosemary Harris, 98, turning 99 next month

  14. Sir David Attenborough, 100

  15. Marla Gibbs, 95

  16. George Takei, 89

  17. Michael Caine, 93

  18. James Hong, 97

  19. Mel Brooks, 100

  20. Tippi Hedren, 96

  21. Sophia Loren, 91, turning 92 next month

  22. William Daniels, 99, and his wife Bonnie Bartlett, 97

And looking at that list, it's hard not to realize just how much history is represented in those names.

We're talking about people who have been entertaining us for decades. They've been in our favorite movies, television shows and childhood memories. Some have been famous for longer than many of us have been alive.

And then there's Dick Van Dyke and Mel Brooks, both 100.

At this point, they're not celebrities.

They're historical landmarks with excellent agents.

Morgan Freeman is 89, which means he's reached the age where he could narrate a documentary about anything and we'd immediately believe him.

"Here we see a Midwestern man opening the refrigerator for the fourth time..."

Morgan Freeman voice:
"He knew there was nothing new inside. But he looked anyway."

And William Shatner is 95.

Somewhere right now, he's probably still trying to convince someone to let him go into space again.

Meanwhile, James Hong is 97 and has been acting for more than seven decades.

That's not a career anymore.

That's a franchise.

Of course, nobody gets to decide who stays with us and for how long.

But after losing so many familiar faces, there's something comforting about seeing this collection of legendary performers still doing their thing.

So, for now, let's enjoy them.

Watch the movies. Rewatch the shows. Listen to the stories.

And maybe don't tell Dick Van Dyke that 100 is considered old.

He clearly didn't get the memo.
