Catastrophic Flooding Kills Hundreds
Catastrophic flash flooding along the China-Nepal border has reportedly killed at least 472 people, with more than 1,500 others still missing as rescue efforts continue.
Thousands of people have been rescued following Wednesday’s disaster. Officials caution that the number of missing could change as search-and-rescue operations continue and authorities work to account for those who may have been evacuated or remain stranded.
The flooding has caused widespread destruction in the border region, with emergency crews continuing to search for survivors.
Trump Moves to Rename Lake Ontario “Lake America”
President Donald Trump has signed an executive order directing the U.S. geographic naming system to recognize Lake Ontario as “Lake America” in U.S. federal usage.
The move comes as tensions between the United States and Canada remain high amid Trump's ongoing trade dispute with the country.
There is one pretty significant catch: the United States can't force Canada to use the new name.
So, for now, Americans may have a new name for the lake while Canadians can continue calling it Lake Ontario.
That could make for some interesting conversations the next time somebody asks which lake you're looking at.
J.D. Vance Coming to Michigan Monday
Vice President J.D. Vance is scheduled to visit Michigan Monday.
According to MAGA Inc., the super PAC is holding an event in Sterling Heights, where Vance is expected to appear in support of Republican candidates campaigning ahead of the November midterm elections.
Those candidates include gubernatorial candidate Representative John James and Senator Mike Rogers.
Saginaw Drivers: Expect Delays
If you're driving through Saginaw today or tomorrow, you'll want to plan ahead.
The intersection of State Street and Mackinaw Street is closed today and Saturday for construction.
The Michigan Department of Transportation says both northbound and southbound traffic will be unable to cross State Street at Mackinaw.
The closure is part of a larger project rebuilding just over a mile of eastbound State Street between Avalon Avenue and Bay Street.
The project includes new pavement, curbs, sidewalks, and upgrades to the sewer and water mains.
Tigers Take on the Dodgers Tonight
It's a big night at Comerica Park as the Detroit Tigers host the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Tarek Skubal is scheduled to take the mound for Detroit, with first pitch set for 6:40 tonight.
Meanwhile, the Great Lakes Loons defeated the Lansing Lugnuts 7-2.
And football fans, tomorrow is the Lions' final preseason game.
