Dolly Parton may soon have her name on one of the biggest gateways to Music City.
Just three days after Dolly’s death at age 80, Tennessee Governor Bill Lee announced plans to pursue renaming Nashville International Airport in her honor.
The proposed name? Dolly Parton International Airport.
Dolly’s representatives are reportedly open to the idea, and a petition supporting the name change has already collected more than 150,000 signatures.
There is still a process to go through. The Metro Nashville Airport Authority is expected to discuss the proposal at its September 17 meeting.
Dolly spent her life putting Tennessee on the map through her music, philanthropy and unmistakable personality.
Now, Tennessee may be looking to put Dolly’s name on the map... literally.
