Five Men Arrested Near Air Base

UK police say five men arrested early Sunday near an air base used by the United States during its war against Iran are being held on suspicion of preparing a terrorist attack.

London’s Metropolitan Police say they received a call around 12:45 a.m. regarding three suspicious vehicles that appeared to be traveling toward the base.

Iran has previously indicated that a base used to launch attacks against its territory would be considered a legitimate target.

Consumers Energy Plans Community Open Houses

Consumers Energy is inviting residents to attend one of two community open houses to learn more about two proposed natural gas plants planned for Genesee and Bay counties.

The first open house is Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Bedford Township Hall on East Vienna Road in Clio.

A second open house is scheduled for Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Hampton Township Hall on West Centre Road in Essexville.

Residents will be able to view information and displays, speak with project experts, ask questions and provide feedback.

Frankenmuth Dog Bowl Sets Donation Record

The Frankenmuth Dog Bowl has broken its donation record, giving more than $57,000 to police canine units, dog rescue organizations and community initiatives.

The world's largest Olympic-style festival for dogs distributed $19,500 to support active police canine units, $23,000 to various dog rescue organizations and $5,000 to the Friends of Frankenmuth Police.

The remaining funds went to various service groups and pet-related charities.
