Michigan News: Farm Relief Package, Bay City Manufacturing Expansion, and I-75 Lane Closures

Here's a look at the latest news affecting Michigan and Mid-Michigan, from a new federal farming aid package to manufacturing training in Bay City and upcoming roadwork on I-75.

Trump Announces $8 Billion in Farm Relief

President Donald Trump is rolling out an $8 billion farming assistance package aimed at helping farmers deal with rising fertilizer and diesel fuel costs.

The package will provide one-time relief payments to farmers. It follows two earlier rounds of funding mentioned in the announcement: $12 billion distributed earlier this year and another $14 billion announced just two weeks ago.

The announcement comes ahead of Trump's visit to Sioux City, Iowa.

Rising operating costs continue to put pressure on farmers, with fuel and fertilizer among the expenses that can take a significant bite out of a farm's budget.

Michigan Senate Candidates Debate Key Issues

With less than two weeks remaining until Election Day, Republican Mike Rogers and Democrat Abdul El-Sayed faced off in a Michigan Senate debate.

The debate largely stayed focused on the issues, with limited interruptions. Topics included the economy, trade, tariffs, gas prices, and the conflict in the Middle East.

The candidates discussed issues facing voters as the election approaches.

Bay City Company Opens New Training and Manufacturing Center

A Bay City manufacturer is investing in workforce development with a new training, technology, and manufacturing center.

Bay Plastics Machinery, located on North Euclid Avenue, says the facility is designed to help expand production while addressing workforce shortages in the manufacturing industry.

A company spokesman says the goal is to strengthen the local workforce through internships, vocational education, and other career-focused programs.

The investment could help provide more training opportunities for people interested in manufacturing careers while supporting the company's future growth.

I-75 Lane Closures Coming Near Bay City

Drivers traveling through the Bay City area should prepare for lane closures on northbound I-75 beginning Sunday.

According to the Michigan Department of Transportation, the left two northbound lanes will close between M-84 and Salzburg Road for concrete repairs.

Crews are expected to finish the work and reopen the lanes by Thursday, October 29.

Drivers should allow extra time, watch for construction signs, and be prepared for changing traffic conditions through the work zone.
