Michigan Has a Sweet Tooth: Guess Which Halloween Candy Is a Favorite!

Have you stocked up on Halloween candy yet, Michigan? Or are you waiting until the last minute, hoping prices drop before the little ghosts and goblins hit your front porch?

Let's be honest. Maybe you're waiting for a sale. Or maybe you're just trying to keep that bag of Reese's Peanut Butter Cups from mysteriously disappearing before Halloween night!

A new report from Instacart looked at Halloween candy sales from October last year, and Reese's Peanut Butter Cups came out on top nationwide. In fact, nearly every state bought more Reese's than any other candy.

But Michigan has its own sweet spot!

Michigan's Candy Connection

According to Instacart's report, Tootsie Pops are a standout candy in Michigan, along with Louisiana, Alabama, South Carolina, and Delaware. Apparently, we have a thing for that classic combination of a hard candy shell and a chewy chocolate center.

Maybe it's the perfect treat to enjoy while driving down a Michigan country road, waiting for the kids to finish trick-or-treating, or sneaking a few pieces before the neighbors ring the doorbell.

America's Top 10 Halloween Candies

Here's how the nationwide list shakes out, based on ounces sold during October:

  1. Reese's Peanut Butter Cups

  2. Peanut M&M's

  3. Hershey's Milk Chocolate

  4. Regular M&M's

  5. Snickers

  6. Kit Kat

  7. Sour Patch Kids

  8. Haribo Goldbears

  9. Skittles

  10. Twix

Peanut M&M's are especially popular in several states, including Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska, and South Dakota. Rhode Island goes its own way, with Sour Patch Kids taking the top spot.

And the regional candy quirks don't stop there. Candy corn stands out in Colorado and Wyoming, Swedish Fish are favorites in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, and Twizzlers get extra love in Wisconsin, Missouri, North Dakota, and Maryland.

The Big Michigan Halloween Question

Now we need to settle something important here in the Great Lakes State.

When you're handing out Halloween candy, are you buying the good stuff, or are you the house giving out the candy nobody wants?

And let's talk about the real test: Do you give away your favorite candy, or do you buy something you don't like so you're not tempted to eat it all before Halloween?

Tell us what candy Michigan should always have in the bowl. Reese's? Tootsie Pops? Snickers? Or are you proudly defending candy corn?

Just remember, the weather might be chilly, the leaves might be covering the driveway, and the trick-or-treaters might be wearing winter coats over their costumes. But one thing is certain: somebody in Michigan is already sneaking candy from the Halloween stash.
