Michigan Gas Prices Surge to $4.83 a Gallon as Drivers Feel the Pinch

Michigan drivers are getting hit in the wallet at the gas pump, with prices climbing sharply across the state. If you've filled up your tank lately, you've probably noticed that your trip to the gas station is getting more expensive by the day.

According to AAA, Michigan's average price for a gallon of regular gasoline has climbed to $4.83, up 34 cents in just one week and $1.75 higher than this time last year.

The latest increase comes amid refinery issues in Illinois and ongoing tensions in the Middle East. Brent crude oil has climbed above $100 a barrel, adding to the pressure on fuel prices.

For drivers across Mid-Michigan, that means less money left over for groceries, bills, and those weekend trips up north.

Whitmer Announces Drop in Violent Crime

Governor Gretchen Whitmer says violent crime in Michigan has fallen to its lowest level in seven years.

According to the governor, murders have dropped more than 40% since 2021, while robberies have been cut in half. More than 1,000 illegal guns have also been seized through Operation Safe Neighborhoods.

Whitmer says the state has invested nearly $2 billion in public safety initiatives, including putting more officers on the streets, supporting violence-intervention programs, and removing illegal guns from people who shouldn't have them.

J.D. Vance Returns to Michigan

Vice President J.D. Vance is back in Michigan today, with the Republican National Committee confirming that he will deliver remarks at CHI Aviation in Howell.

His speech is scheduled to begin at noon.

Fall Means More Deer on Michigan Roads

Drivers are also being warned to watch for deer, as autumn brings an increased risk of collisions across Michigan.

According to the figures cited in the report, Michigan experienced more than 58,000 deer crashes in 2025. Nearly 41% of those collisions occurred during October, November, and December.

The risk increases during the fall breeding season, when deer are more active and may suddenly dart across roadways.

AAA recommends staying alert, especially around dawn and dusk. If a deer appears in front of your vehicle, brake firmly when it's safe to do so, and avoid swerving into oncoming traffic.
