What's Trending in Mid-Michigan

Apparently, the 1990s Were the Golden Age of Christmas!

If you're getting into the holiday spirit by cranking up Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit," watching Home Alone for the 47th time, or remembering when Christmas morning meant tearing into presents before your parents were even awake, you're not alone!

A new survey found that 81% of people get nostalgic when thinking about the holidays. And the decade that brings back the warmest Christmas memories? The 1990s!

About 31% say the '90s had the best holiday memories. The 2000s came in second at 21%, followed by the 1980s at 15%.

And if you grew up in Michigan during the '90s, you probably have a few memories of your own. Maybe it was driving around looking at Christmas lights with a thermos of hot chocolate, waiting for the big snowstorm, decorating the tree while your favorite Christmas specials played on TV, or making sure nobody touched the presents under the tree.

The survey also found that 93% of parents like to recreate parts of the holidays they experienced growing up. That includes family traditions, homemade recipes, uninterrupted time together, holiday movies and TV specials, gift-giving and decorating the house.

Apparently, we're all trying to give our kids a little taste of the Christmas we remember.

And here's an interesting one: The survey says the most magical age to experience the holidays as a child is 6 years old.

Of course, they didn't ask about the most magical age for adults. My guess is somewhere around the age when you can afford the presents but still have somebody else cook Christmas dinner!

So here's the question: What decade gave you the BEST Christmas memories?

The '80s, '90s, 2000s or today? And what's one Christmas tradition from your childhood that you still wish you could experience again?

Because around Michigan, nothing brings back memories quite like the first real snowfall, Christmas lights on the houses and the smell of something good cooking in the kitchen.
