There was some damage done to one of the OpX hard drives recently.  Luckily it was caught early enough.  There are signs in the studio warning you to please not touch the hard drives or rest your feet on any of the equipment.  Thank you!

AIRCHECK

This is ACM weekend in Nashville. While award shows are not the biggest event in streaming, it is certainly one of the biggest country music events of the year.  The nominees are online and posted in the studio.  One of our strengths of the country format is the passion of the listeners for the music.  While they may not care about every detail, the content is timely, fun and very relevant.  Include ACM content in your breaks this weekend.  With the show on Sunday night, let’s keep ACM content off the air starting at 6pm Sunday evening.  The rest of the weekend, have fun with it!

How you sound on the radio is often more important that what you say.  Obviously the content you create is very, very important.  It must be local, relevant, timely, light, fun and positive.  However, something as simple as a song intro, a weather forecast or a live promo can sound AWEFUL if the air talent is not genuinely enthusiastic.  This is the job.  Create a fun sounding atmosphere between the songs.  That starts with authentic enthusiasm, vocal tempo and great content.  Listeners are always asking, “what’s in it for me?”  When we can’t deliver, they tune away.  Think how quickly you scroll away from a topic you don’t care about on social media.  Radio listeners have been hitting the button long before scrolling was a thing.

Focus! Have Fun! Smile! When you sound like you’re having a great time, they will hear it.  If you can’t muster a full on party, weekend vibe, fake it until you make it.  That’s the acting part of the job.

We have showers in the forecast for the weekend.  Please keep an eye on weather hourly.  Update forecasts as needed.  Additionally, please check the 911-traffic map hourly.  If you see ORANGE or RED that means there is a slow down or an accident.  When you see that in well-traveled area, I75, please update your content to include a quick mention.  It’s another great way to prove our stations are not on auto-pilot.  You can also use the severe weather carts for large scale, GIANT traffic issues to make sure its covered on all stations.

When you click on the marine forecast, read it as is for the Bay Boaters forecast.  Boaters are looking for winds and wave heights.  Some of that content can be longer so deliver the info quickly, accurately and for the next 48 hours at least.

Please remember we are asking each of you to deliver 1 piece of local content per hour.  Please search MLive, FB events and the Base Local Tri-cities e-blast for cool, fun local content!

Have a nice weekend and thank you for loaning us your talents!
