Resync

WHAT IS THE RESYNC: 58 ???

Each hour on all stations a “resync” is scheduled as the last element of the hour.  This feature of the OpX keeps the stations on time, hour to hour.

At: 58 after each hour, the resync will DELETE all audio that does not play before exactly :58.

If there is a commercial break on Joe, Bay or KCQ towards the end of the hour, you have to make sure ALL the commercials air BEFORE :58.  If you don’t, the resync will DELETE those commercials and the company loses money.

If you’re not watching the OpX at this time, the commercials and other audio files will be deleted and you will not even realize it happened.  You’d have to scroll back on the playlist and notice what audio files played to realize what files did not play.

Remember, commercials pay the bills.  Missing them can’t happen without approval from Shelley, Cooper, Jason or a team leader.

If you find yourself playing commercials at the end of the hour and you anticipate the resync will delete commercials, simply delete the resync.  This will keep audio from deleting.

You are allowed to move a song from before the break to after the break, in order to make sure commercials play in the hour and on time.

While we want you to keep all stations on time, being a little late is way better than missing commercials or having the resync delete them.

If you have any questions about the resync, email Jason asap.

AIRCHECK

There are about 60 days left of our rated time of year.  While we need you at your best all year long, this is when listeners have the chance to give us a report card.  A handful of listeners, all ages and all zip-codes, will be asked to recall what radio they listened to for a week.  Why do we brand our station names so much?  So listeners never doubt who they are listening to and can then remember our brands when it’s time to write it down.

Just like you scroll online, radio listeners have little patience for content they don’t want or need.  We build the best tested playlists we can.  Inevitably someone will tune out when a song we play does not match their needs in the moment.  Additionally, when an air talent (our competitors) drone on about themselves with self-centered content, listeners punch out.

We deliver fun, light, localized content that is centered on THEIR needs.  You win and we win when they choose us.  Be an escape, an oasis from the troubles of their day.  Deliver the energy and authentic enthusiasm we all want.  Be the host of a party, not the star of a show.  That’s our way.  That’s how we win.  That’s how we earn attention and revenue.

Be of service to our listeners.  While each have a phone with weather information on it, for those driving, giving them weather details is a service.  With Spring showers and Thunderstorms in the forecast, make sure you are closely monitoring weather and updating Joe, Bay and KCQ Listeners.

Please check the traffic website a couple times each hour to make sure you are aware of possible issues that listeners may need to know.  That’s a service to them right in the spot they probably listen the most, their car.

As air talent, we must consider ourselves multi-platform content creators.  While radio is number 1, your digital presence is needed, required and expected from our listeners.  Tik Tok and Instagram influencers are doing radio content, the stuff we’ve been doing for years.  Engage with listeners digitally!

Themes for the weekend:  Saginaw Arsenal Arena Football starts tomorrow! Spring, Warm Weather, Rain, NFL Draft, Tigers take on the Reds in Cincinnati this weekend.

THANK YOU for lending us your talents!

ON AIR SUCCESS FACTORS

MBC On-Air Success factors

Self-Assessment – After every break on air, ask yourself, “How could that have been better?”

You Factor - Speak to the listener's self interest.  Use the word YOU more than the word I.  Lead with YOU, end with YOU.

Brand – We are graded on recall.  Say our station’s name often and organically.

Tease – The art of hooking listeners into listening longer.

Prep – Find the great content our listeners want to hear about.

Rehearse – Practice EVERY break you do out oud, before you do it.

Localize – Great local content is great but rare.  Localize all content and we win.

Prove You’re Live – How can you subtly or overtly remind the audience YOU ARE LIVE!

STSTS – Start the song, then speak.  No cheating. Keep forward momentum.

Sell New Music – unfamiliar music can be a tune out.  Sell it! Show your passion.

Post/Interact – Add content to our station’s FB/Insta pages once per shift.  Respond to listeners.

HOW TO TEASE

You can give as much as 80% of the story away up front.  BUT you must save the most important 20%. Make your teases questions and design them to get the listeners WONDERING what the answer is.

Plan your teases based on when you can pay them off.  Make sure your teases are roughly 3 songs from the payoff, no more that 12 minutes.

"WHY" is a great way to start a tease!

"WHO" can be compelling but often less so.

HOW TO USE YOU FACTOR

The YOU FACTOR is about placing the listeners interest before your own.  Many DJs get the impression, especially in our podcast age, that they are the STAR of the moment.  All their content is based on their perspective alone.  While that is reasonable for someone's "show," we have the HOST philosophy.

You're the HOST of a party, not the STAR of a show.

Simply put, say YOU more than you say I.  Say YOU 3X more.  Start with YOU, end with YOU.  Slip an I in the middle.

Content breaks can start with... HAVE YOU....?

Remember, Listeners are grading, judging the content you provide.  The second they feel like there's nothing in it for THEM, they are out.

Leading with a YOU can help because you're starting by saying, "this is about you..."

HOW TO LOCALIZE

What's the Michigan angle of the story you're doing?

If the content isn't about our community or didn't happen in our state, how can you frame it from a Michigan perspective?

Lets make the assumption that if 19% of American's are traveling for a holiday, thats 19% of MICHIGANDERs are traveling.

"Jared Goff would not have missed that pass last night on Monday Night Football.  The Raiders beat Houston for the last wild card seat.  The Lion's take on Philly this Sunday."

"The world record for snapping cucumbers in half is 35 on 60 seconds.  John Smith of Ohio is the new world record holder.  We need to bring that record back to Michigan!"

"Luke Combs just announced his tour for next year.  No Michigan stops yet so we have to road trip in Indianapolis next summer!"

When your content isn't about or from Michigan, bring  it home for our listeners.

Remember: You should be doing 1 piece of LOCAL, MICHIGAN content per hour!
