Here's a question that might divide households faster than "pineapple on pizza."
How many times do you use a bath towel before tossing it in the wash?
More than 24,000 Americans were asked, and the most common answer was two or three uses, with 40% saying that's their limit. That seems pretty reasonable. Your towel gets a few chances to prove itself before it heads to the laundry basket.
Then things take a turn.
Twenty percent of people wait four or five uses before washing it. Another 10% stretch it to five or six, and another 10% keep going for seven or more uses.
Seven?
At that point, your towel isn't drying you. You and the towel are just taking turns recycling moisture.
Then there are the overachievers. About 13% of people wash their towel after every single use. Their laundry room must sound like a commercial laundromat 24 hours a day. Their washing machine probably files complaints when it gets a day off.
And somehow, 1% of people say they don't use towels at all.
They just... air dry.
That's fine if you're standing on a tropical beach. It's a little different when you're shivering in a Michigan bathroom in February, trying to convince yourself you're "embracing nature."
The real mystery is how everyone seems to have their own invisible towel rule. Some people think, "I was clean when I used it, so the towel is clean." Others look at a towel after two days like it's radioactive.
Maybe there's no right answer.
But if your towel can stand up on its own when you hang it back up, it might be trying to tell you something.
