Yellowstone Bison Charges Visitor, Sends Him Flying in Viral Video

A visit to Yellowstone National Park turned into a terrifying encounter when a massive bull bison charged a grandfather visiting with his grandson, sending him flying through the air in a viral video that has been making the rounds online.

The incident happened Friday at Yellowstone, where the grandfather and his grandson were visiting the park and taking in the incredible wildlife. Video captured by a nearby photographer shows the bison charging toward the man as he tries to get away by running around a group of trees.

Unfortunately, the bison caught up with him, hooked him with its horns, and tossed him into the air. The man flew several feet before hitting the ground hard.

Thankfully, he is expected to make a full recovery, although he suffered a broken leg and needed surgery.

Watch the viral video here: https://twitter.com/i/status/2076123348161995138

The Bison Was Not Provoked, Witness Says

While some wildlife encounters happen because visitors get too close or ignore safety warnings, this situation appears to be different.

Photographer Mike Macleod, who captured the incident, said the bison had wandered into a campsite and initially focused its attention on a group of young boys near a tent. The kids were reportedly taking photos from a distance of about 50 to 100 feet away.

The boys quickly scattered, but shortly afterward, the bison noticed the grandfather and his grandson. The pair had stopped to take photos of the animal from afar when the bison suddenly charged.

The grandson was able to run away, but the grandfather was chased down and thrown into the air.

Witnesses stepped in, helped move the bison away, created a safety perimeter, and called 911.

A Wild Landing Gets a Funny Review

Macleod rushed over to help and tried to lighten the moment by joking with the injured man.

As a former U.S. Army paratrooper, Macleod told him he would give his landing a “9.5 out of 10.”

The grandfather reportedly replied:

Well, if you just caught me five years ago, I coulda done better.

Despite the scary moment, the man’s sense of humor remained intact.

Yellowstone Reminder: Wildlife Is Still Wild

The National Park Service is investigating the incident, but early reports indicate this was not a case of visitors intentionally provoking the animal.

Park officials regularly remind visitors that even when you are following the rules, wild animals can be unpredictable. Bison may look calm while grazing, but they are powerful animals capable of moving quickly and reacting suddenly.

The National Park Service recommends staying at least 25 yards away from large animals like bison, elk, and deer, and 100 yards away from predators like bears and wolves.

A beautiful wildlife photo is worth remembering, but it is never worth becoming part of the wildlife story.

Where Does Michigan Rank for Quality of Life?

When people think about the "best" state to live in, it's usually about more than just beautiful scenery or low taxes. Things like healthcare, public safety, childcare, clean air, and overall quality of life can make a huge difference.

Every year, CNBC ranks America's Top States for Business. While Ohio took the top business ranking this year, CNBC also grades each state on quality of life, and the results are generating plenty of conversation.

How CNBC Measured Quality of Life

The rankings looked at several factors, including:

  • Crime rates
  • Air quality
  • Access to healthcare
  • Cost and availability of childcare
  • Worker protections
  • Inclusiveness of state laws
  • Reproductive rights

Each state received a score out of 290 possible points.

The Top 5 States for Quality of Life

 1. Vermont (233 points, A+)
The Green Mountain State has now held the No. 1 spot for six straight years.

 2. Maine (232 points, A+)

 3. New Jersey (223 points, A+)

4. Minnesota (210 points, A)

5. Connecticut (205 points, A)

One thing these states have in common? They're all in the northern part of the country.

The Bottom 5 States

At the other end of the rankings:

50. Tennessee (64 points, F)

49. Texas (78 points, F)

48. Indiana (82 points, F)

47. Louisiana (82 points, F)

46. Georgia (89 points, F)

According to CNBC, lower scores were driven by factors such as crime, worker protections, and other quality-of-life measures included in the study.

So... Where Does Michigan Rank?

Michigan didn't crack either the top five or the bottom five, landing somewhere in the middle of the pack overall.

The Great Lakes State has plenty going for it:

  • More than 11,000 inland lakes and four Great Lakes shorelines
  • Four distinct seasons
  • Affordable housing compared to many coastal states
  • World-class outdoor recreation, from camping and fishing to skiing
  • Vibrant communities like Frankenmuth, Traverse City, Grand Rapids, Midland, Bay City, Saginaw, and the Detroit metro area

Like every state, Michigan also faces challenges, including road infrastructure, housing affordability in some areas, and access to healthcare in certain rural communities.

What Do You Think?

Statistics only tell part of the story. The people who live here know what makes Michigan special.

Whether it's spending weekends Up North, catching a Tigers game, relaxing on a Great Lakes beach, or enjoying a summer festival in Mid-Michigan, there's a lot to love about calling the Mitten State home.

Taylor Swift & Travis Kelce's Wedding Came With a Jaw-Dropping Price Tag

When you're one of the biggest pop stars in the world marrying one of the NFL's biggest names, it's safe to say the wedding isn't going to be cheap.

But just how expensive was it?

According to The Knot Worldwide, Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's lavish celebration reportedly carried an estimated price tag of $20 million to $30 million.

That's enough to make even the fanciest wedding planner do a double take.

Turning Madison Square Garden Into a Wedding Venue

One of the biggest expenses?

Transforming the iconic Madison Square Garden into a wedding venue.

The estimated cost to rent the arena, along with several days for setup, teardown, and the massive infrastructure needed to pull it all off, reportedly landed between $5 million and $10 million.

That's before the first guest even walked through the doors.

Flowers... Lots and Lots of Flowers

If you've ever priced wedding flowers, you know they aren't cheap.

Now imagine decorating one of the world's most famous arenas.

The Knot estimates another $5 million or more went toward floral arrangements, custom décor, elegant draping, carpeting, and transforming the venue into a one-of-a-kind wedding experience.

Feeding More Than a Thousand Guests

The guest list reportedly included around 1,100 people, and keeping everyone fed wasn't exactly inexpensive.

Catering, staffing, transportation, and event logistics are estimated to have cost between $2.5 million and $3 million.

That's a lot of champagne to pour.

Jason Kelce Stole the Show... Again

Of course, no Kelce family celebration would be complete without Jason Kelce making headlines.

Jason recently described the wedding as "great" and "a good time."

He also joked that he enjoyed well over 15 beers during the celebration.

Honestly... that may be the least surprising wedding statistic of them all.

The 3 Germiest Things You Touch Every Day... And Probably Forget to Wash Your Hands After

We all know we're supposed to wash our hands after using the bathroom. But what about the things we touch every day without giving them a second thought?

According to health experts, there are three everyday items that are absolutely loaded with germs, and washing your hands after using them can help reduce your chances of getting sick.

You might be surprised by what's on the list...

1. Touchscreens and Pin Pads

Think about how many fingers touch these every single day.

Whether you're:

  • Using the ATM
  • Ordering food on a restaurant tablet
  • Checking out at the grocery store
  • Typing your phone number into a keypad
  • Using a self-checkout screen

...you're touching a surface that hundreds, maybe even thousands, of other people have touched before you.

Those germs can linger, making these high-traffic screens a hotspot for bacteria and viruses.

 2. Grocery Cart Handles

When was the last time you thought about cleaning a shopping cart handle?

Probably never.

But consider what those handles have been through.

People push them after handling raw meat packages, caring for sick kids, coughing into their hands, or simply skipping a trip to the sink.

That's why many grocery stores now offer disinfectant wipes at the entrance. They're worth using!

3. Your Cell Phone

This one might be the biggest surprise... even though it's probably the dirtiest thing you own.

Your phone goes everywhere with you:

  • The kitchen
  • The gym
  • Your car
  • Restaurants
  • Public places
  • Even the bathroom

Yet most people rarely clean it.

Every time you touch your phone after touching another surface, you're transferring germs right back onto something you hold against your face and use dozens, if not hundreds, of times each day.

A quick wipe with an electronics-safe disinfecting cloth can make a big difference.

 The Bottom Line

Good handwashing is still one of the easiest and most effective ways to stay healthy.

So the next time you:
 Use an ATM

Grab a shopping cart

Spend all day on your phone

...take an extra minute to wash your hands and, while you're at it, give that phone a good cleaning too.

Hold Up, New York Times... Detroit Coney Dogs Were Robbed!

There are food rankings... and then there are rankings that make Michiganders spit out their lunch.

The latest hot dog showdown from The New York Times has crowned the Seattle Dog as the Best Regional Hot Dog in America.

Really?

If you've never had one, a Seattle Dog is topped with cream cheese, grilled onions, mustard, and sometimes jalapeños.

Celebrity chef José Andrés, one of the judges, even called the cream cheese the "diplomat" because it brings all the flavors together.

That's nice.

But let's address the elephant... or should we say Coney Dog... in the room.

Detroit Didn't Just Lose... Michigan Lost Its Mind

According to the taste test, the Seattle Dog beat out some legendary competitors, including the:

 Chicago Dog

 New York Dog

Cincinnati-style Dog

Arizona Sonoran Dog

Kansas City Dog

West Virginia Dog

...and yes...

 Detroit's legendary Coney Dog.

Excuse us?!

Here in Michigan, the Coney Dog isn't just food... it's practically a personality trait.

A perfectly steamed bun.

An all-beef hot dog.

That famous meaty Coney sauce.

A stripe of mustard.

A pile of diced onions.

Simple. Classic. Perfect.

No cream cheese required.

 And While We're At It...

Can we also give some love to the Flint-style Coney Dog?

Detroit and Flint have been "arguing" for decades over whose Coney reigns supreme.

Detroit fans swear by the rich, saucy chili topping.

Flint loyalists will tell you the dry beef heart Coney sauce is the only authentic way to do it.

The truth?

Michigan is lucky enough to have TWO iconic Coney Dogs.

Seattle has one.

We've got an entire rivalry.

So... Cream Cheese?

Does cream cheese belong on a hot dog?

Maybe.

Will we try one someday?

Sure.

Will it ever replace a Detroit or Flint Coney?

Not a chance.

Around here, the real debate isn't Seattle versus Chicago or New York.

It's Detroit or Flint?

Now that's an argument worth having.

Are You Missing These Spots When You Put On Sunscreen?

You probably slather on sunscreen before heading to the beach, the pool, or even mowing the lawn. But here's the question...

Are you actually covering everything?

A recent study suggests the answer is... probably not.

Researchers asked people to apply sunscreen to their faces, then used a special UV camera to reveal the areas they missed. Since the face is one of the most common places for skin cancer to develop, the results were eye-opening.

The average person missed about 10% of their face.

The Two Spots Almost Everyone Forgets

1. The Bridge of Your Nose

This was the biggest offender by far.

A whopping 77% of participants missed the bridge of their nose, and many also forgot the sides of it. Considering it's one of the first places the sun hits, that's a pretty important spot to remember.

2. Your Eyelids

About 14% of people skipped their eyelids, likely because nobody wants sunscreen dripping into their eyes.

But here's why it matters: 5% to 10% of all skin cancers occur on the eyelids, making them one of the most important places to protect.

Other Easy-to-Miss Spots

Your face isn't the only place that gets overlooked. According to the study, people also commonly forget to apply sunscreen to:

Your ears

Your scalp (especially if you have thinning hair or a part)

 The tops of your toes

 The backs of your knees

 Your armpits

They're all places that can get plenty of sun, especially during outdoor activities.

 The Bottom Line

Before you head outside this summer, take an extra few seconds to double-check your sunscreen routine.

Your nose, eyelids, ears, scalp, toes, knees, and even your armpits will thank you later.

The Movies We're Passing Down: The Classics Every Young Person Needs to See

At some point in life, you unlock a very important privilege: becoming the person who says, “Wait… you’ve NEVER seen that movie?!”

It’s basically the movie version of handing down family recipes, old stories, and the mysterious ability to know exactly where the remote is hiding.

Now, the editors at Cosmopolitan have put together a list of 50 “old” movies that every young person needs to watch. Of course, like any movie list, it’s also a little bit of “these are the movies WE love,” but there are plenty of legendary films that deserve a spot on the list.

Some of the classics they say younger generations should experience include:

 The Breakfast Club
Heathers
My Girl
Thelma & Louise
 E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial
 A Nightmare on Elm Street
 Big
 Pretty in Pink
 Dead Poets Society
 Who Framed Roger Rabbit
 The Shawshank Redemption
 Misery
 The Sandlot

And then there’s… Showgirls.

Yes, that one made the list too. A choice that will probably cause a few movie fans to pause, rewind, and ask, “Are we sure about this one?”

Pringles Is Putting Hot Dog Buns in Cans... And Somehow This Is Real

People love celebrating Christmas in July, but this might be the most unexpected “April Fools’ Day in July” moment yet. The wild part? It’s not a joke.

Pringles has announced a brand-new creation that sounds like it escaped from a snack scientist’s imagination: flavored hot dog buns that come in cans.

Yes, you read that correctly. Hot dog buns. In cans. One bun per can.

The limited-edition creation is called Pringles Pop Dog Buns, and these potato-based buns are infused with the flavors of some of Pringles’ most popular chips. The lineup includes:

Sour Cream & Onion
BBQ
Honey Mustard

Because apparently, regular hot dog buns were just too predictable. Somewhere, a hot dog looked at a potato chip and said, “I need that as a jacket.”

The buns won’t be showing up on grocery store shelves. They’re only available through Pringles’ online marketplace, Once You Pop Market.

Here’s how it works: You purchase a three-pack of Pringles chips for $7, and you’ll receive three Pop Dog Buns for free.

There will be two chances to get your hands on these canned creations:               The first drop happens tomorrow
The second drop happens Wednesday, July 15, which just happens to be National Hot Dog Day

Will America embrace the chip-flavored bun revolution? Or will people stare at a canned hot dog bun and ask, “Who looked at bread and said, ‘Put it in a can’?”

Either way, Pringles has officially made the summer of 2026 a little crunchier.

Among the famous faces in attendance were Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco, Steven Spielberg, Hugh Grant, Jennifer Lopez, Tom Cruise, Beyoncé and Jay-Z, Tim McGraw and Faith Hill, Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton, Reese Witherspoon, Lena Dunham, Bradley Cooper and Gigi Hadid, Ed Sheeran, Dua Lipa, Jessica Alba, Tom Brady, Chris Rock, Nelly, Ice Spice, Emma Stone, Jason Sudeikis, Jimmy Fallon, Stephen Colbert, Maren Morris, Kelsea Ballerini, Sabrina Carpenter, and Millie Bobby Brown, along with dozens of other celebrities.

Guests included Patrick and Brittany Mahomes, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid, George Kittle, Julian Edelman, Cooper Kupp, Baker Mayfield, Richard Sherman, JuJu Smith-Schuster, and New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel.

Of course, one notable absence had fans talking.

Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds were not in attendance. According to reports, a source says Taylor is "in a different place now" and wants to surround herself with people she trusts, adding that she considers the friendship to be over.

Another headline-making omission was Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker, who also reportedly did not receive an invitation.

With hundreds of guests and an A-list lineup that rivaled the Met Gala, Taylor and Travis' wedding wasn't just a celebration of their marriage. It became one of the biggest celebrity gatherings in recent memory.

USA Soccer Update: Next Big Test Against Belgium

The United States Men’s National Team is heading into one of its most important matches of the tournament: a Round of 16 showdown with Belgium. The stakes are simple, sharp, and unforgiving—win and move on, lose and the World Cup journey ends.

The match kicks off July 6 at 8:00 PM ET in Seattle, where the energy is expected to feel more like a pressure cooker than a stadium.

 A Knockout Stage Reality Check

This is where the World Cup changes shape. Group-stage breathing room is gone. Every mistake echoes, every goal feels heavier.

For the U.S., this matchup is the gateway deeper into the knockout rounds. For Belgium, it’s another chance to lean on experience and tournament pedigree.

There are no second chances here—just 90 minutes that can stretch into extra time, penalties, and heartbreak or glory.

 What’s at Stake

A win sends the United States into the next round with momentum and belief building at just the right moment in the tournament.

A loss sends them home earlier than hoped, with lessons learned and questions waiting for the next cycle.

This is the kind of match that defines eras for national teams—not just a game, but a snapshot of where the program stands on the global stage.

Final Thought

The lights will be bright in Seattle, the crowd loud, and the tension absolute. The U.S. now steps into the kind of match that turns promise into history—or into “what could have been.”

Either way, July 6 is the moment everything tightens.

Taylor Swift & Travis Kelce Wedding: A Pop Culture Fairytale at MSG

After months of speculation that felt more like a global guessing game, Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce have officially tied the knot in a star-studded celebration that turned Madison Square Garden into a once-in-a-lifetime wedding stage.

The ceremony took place Friday with hundreds of guests inside the legendary arena, now transformed from basketball cathedral to romantic spectacle.

A Ceremony Straight Out of a Headline Dream

According to a representative, the wedding was officiated by comedian Adam Sandler, a longtime friend of the couple. The event featured an unconventional but heartfelt setup: no bridesmaids or groomsmen.

Instead, family took center stage in supporting roles:

  • Austin Swift served as Taylor’s Man of Honor

  • Jason Kelce stood as Travis’s Best Man

Swift wore a custom Christian Dior Haute Couture gown, marking the moment with signature elegance.

MSG Transformed Into a Love Story Arena

Inside MSG, crews reportedly built an entirely new environment for the celebration, with entertainment, themed staging, and a reception setup that turned the venue into something closer to a cinematic world than a sports arena.

Outside, the energy was electric:

  • A giant jumbotron lit up reading “JUST MARRIED”

  • The Empire State Building glowed in “something blue” in honor of the couple

Thousands of fans and onlookers gathered nearby hoping for a glimpse of the celebration unfolding behind security barriers.

Guest List Fit for a Cultural Crossover Event

Around 1,000 guests attended the celebration, including a mix of Hollywood, sports, and music figures such as:

  • Hugh Grant

  • Jason Sudeikis

  • Ethan Hawke

  • Abby Wambach

  • Joe Buck

  • Benson Boone

  • Cooper Kupp

Black SUVs lined the venue as guests arrived for what sources described as a multi-phase celebration including cocktail hour, ceremony, and reception.

From Friendship Bracelet to Forever

Swift and Kelce’s relationship began with a now-famous missed connection and a friendship bracelet gesture that sparked a cultural moment. What followed was a years-long romance blending stadium lights and concert stages into a shared orbit.

Their engagement last August set the stage for what has now become one of the most talked-about weddings in modern pop culture history.

What Comes Next

While no honeymoon plans have been announced, observers expect Swift’s next chapter may include new music inspired by this era of her life, as both continue blending their worlds of pop and professional sports.

For now, though, the story belongs to the night sky over Manhattan, where love, celebrity, and spectacle all collided under one very bright roof.

Mid-Michigan Fireworks Night Guide: Where the Sky Explodes in Glittering Color

Nothing says summer in Michigan like that moment the sun dips low, the crowd hums with anticipation, and suddenly the sky turns into a slow-motion fireworks painting

Here’s your guide to some of the biggest Independence Day celebrations lighting up Mid-Michigan.

 Bay City Fireworks Festival

Bay City

Fireworks blast off at 10:12 p.m., but the real magic starts long before that.

This is one of Michigan’s premier fireworks events, more like a full-blown summer carnival that forgot to be modest. Expect:

  • Carnival rides spinning like neon whirlpools
  • Food vendors stacking sugar, smoke, and comfort on every corner
  • Live entertainment keeping the energy warm until nightfall

By the time the fireworks hit, the whole riverfront feels like it’s holding its breath.

 Midland Downtown Celebration

Midland

Fireworks begin around 10:06 p.m.

Best viewing spots include:

  • Downtown streets
  • Dow Diamond area
  • Founders Park
  • Whiting Overlook Park

Midland does fireworks like a curated experience. The whole downtown becomes a viewing gallery where people tilt their heads skyward in sync, like a quiet human sundial.

 Lansing Riverfront Show

Lansing

At Adado Riverfront Park, fireworks launch around 10:00 p.m.

This one has a clean, classic feel. Wide open sky, river reflections, and that deep echo of booms rolling across downtown like distant thunder applause.

Frankenmuth Family Fireworks

Frankenmuth

Fireworks: 10:00 p.m. at Heritage Park

Frankenmuth leans into cozy celebration energy. Think small-town charm turned up to festival brightness. Families spread out on blankets, kids half-dancing, half-waiting for the sky to crack open.

Mount Pleasant Celebration

Mount Pleasant

Fireworks at dusk (around 10:00 p.m.) at Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort

Before the sky show, there’s plenty happening:

  • Live entertainment
  • Family-friendly activities
  • That subtle casino glow humming in the background

Then the fireworks arrive like the final card flip in a high-stakes summer game.

Clare Community Night

Clare

Fireworks at dusk at Clare County Fairgrounds

This is a down-to-earth, community-centered celebration. Food, laughter, and that slow build of anticipation that makes the finale feel earned.

 Owosso Celebration

Owosso

Fireworks at dusk

A full-day hometown celebration leading into nightfall. Kids run on caffeine and cotton candy while the town slowly transforms into a glowing stage for the evening sky.

St. Johns City Celebration

St. Johns

Fireworks at dusk

Simple, classic, and community-driven. The kind of night where the whole town seems to pause together, like someone hit a shared mute button before the big finale.

Before You Head Out

Across Mid-Michigan, most fireworks launch between 10:00 and 10:15 p.m.

A few survival tips for your night under the sparks:

  • Bring lawn chairs or blankets (grass is optional, comfort is not)
  • Arrive early for parking unless you enjoy scenic traffic meditation ????
  • Check the weather before you go — thunderstorms can rewrite the whole script

When the first firework blooms, everything else fades for a second. Just sky, sound, and that brief feeling that summer is trying to outdo itself again.

Taylor Swift & Travis Kelce Wedding at Madison Square Garden: The Latest Details Ahead of "I Do"

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are reportedly set to tie the knot tomorrow at Madison Square Garden, turning one of the world’s most famous arenas into a full-scale celebrity wedding epic. With rehearsal dinners, guest lists in the thousands, and enough food to feed a small festival crowd, this isn’t just a wedding—it’s a New York headline machine in formalwear.

Here’s what’s been reported so far.

1. A two-day wedding timeline at MSG

A source says the celebration kicks off tonight with a rehearsal dinner for about 100 guests inside the arena’s Infosys Theater, running from 6:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

Tomorrow is where things scale up fast.

  • Doors open: 3:30 p.m.
  • Cocktail hour: 4:00 p.m. on the sixth-floor concourse
  • Ceremony: 5:30 p.m. on the arena floor
  • Reception: begins around 6:30 p.m.
  • End time: roughly 2:00 a.m.

One alleged guest claims the ceremony may not even take place where expected, suggesting there could be a last-minute twist in location plans.

In other words: even the wedding itinerary might have a plot twist.

2. The menu is already moving into the arena

Food deliveries spotted at MSG include lobster meat, multiple forms of chicken, French fries, onion rings, peppers, lettuce, eggs, cream, and milk.

That’s not a wedding menu—it’s a diner, a steakhouse, and a late-night snack run all rolled into one.

Reports also suggest guests will see food stations inspired by Taylor Swift’s favorite New York restaurants, bringing a “taste tour” vibe to the reception.

3. City services adjust ahead of the event

New York City has increased outreach efforts around Madison Square Garden. Officials say it’s tied to expected heat conditions, not specifically the wedding, as large crowds and high temperatures converge in Midtown.

Still, the timing has drawn attention given the scale of the event.

4. A pricey weekend for local businesses

Street closures and security measures tied to the wedding are expected to impact nearby businesses, potentially costing tens of thousands in lost revenue.

And with World Cup events and the Fourth of July weekend also in play, some business owners say the timing couldn’t be more disruptive to what would normally be a major earning stretch.

5. Knicks players make the guest list

Adding a New York twist, the starting lineup of the Knicks reportedly received invitations to the ceremony.

Because if you’re getting married at Madison Square Garden, the home team might as well show up.

6. Celebrity weddings and the “over-the-top” factor

With all the buzz, Rolling Stone has even compiled a list of the most extravagant celebrity weddings in history, putting this one in the broader context of Hollywood-scale celebrations where “intimate gathering” is more of a suggestion than a rule.

Whether every detail plays out exactly as reported or not, one thing is clear: this wedding has already become a cultural event before the first “I do” is even spoken.

Fireworks Safety 101: Keeping the Fourth Bright, Not Burned

The best way to enjoy fireworks is simple: let the professionals handle the sky-high explosions while the rest of us handle the snacks, lawn chairs, and questionable grill skills. But since Independence Day and fireworks go together like sparklers and singed eyebrows, here are some reminders to keep the celebration more “ooh and ahh” than “911 dispatch.”

1. Kids and fireworks don’t mix

Keep children away from fireworks entirely. Even something as innocent-looking as a sparkler can reach temperatures hot enough to cause serious burns. And no, handing a kid a tiny fireball is not a bonding activity—it’s a bad idea with glitter.

2. Always have a water backup plan

A bucket of water or a garden hose should be within arm’s reach before anything gets lit. Think of it as your “oops insurance.”

And if a firework doesn’t ignite? Don’t touch it. Don’t investigate it. Don’t negotiate with it. Just leave it alone—it may still decide to join the party late.

3. One at a time, then step away

Light fireworks one at a time, then move away quickly. Holding them is not a flex, even if the instructions make it sound vaguely heroic. If it doesn’t specifically say “hold this in your hand,” assume your hand is not invited.

4. No substances, no sparks

Alcohol and fireworks do not mix. One is for relaxing, the other is for controlled explosions. Combining them tends to end with someone explaining their decisions to a paramedic.

5. Don’t get cocky

The numbers don’t lie: in 2025, fireworks caused about 13,000 injuries and 15 deaths. Of those injuries, about 35% involved hands or fingers, 22% affected the head, face, or ears, and 38% were burns.

Translation: fireworks are not impressed by confidence.

Enjoy the Fourth, keep the celebrations glowing for the right reasons, and let the fireworks stay in the sky where they belong.

Top 10 Ways to Cool Off in Michigan When Summer Turns into a Steam Bath

Michigan summers start innocent enough—birds singing, lakes sparkling, optimism high…
and then suddenly it’s 96°F, 100% humidity, and your soul is asking for iced beverages and life choices.

Here are the top 10 ways to cool off in Michigan when the heat stops being “summer” and starts being “why is the air soup?”

1. Jump Into the Great Lakes (Nature’s Free Air Conditioning)

Lake Michigan, Lake Huron, Lake Superior—pick your flavor of “icy emotional reset.”

One step in and your brain immediately forgets what day it is. It’s not swimming. It’s a system reboot.

2. Ice Cream Road Trip Therapy

Michigan ice cream stands are basically cooling stations disguised as happiness.

Soft serve, hand-dipped cones, weird seasonal flavors you’ll pretend to like—every bite lowers your internal temperature and your standards for lunch.

3. Hit the Beach Like It’s Your Job

Grand Haven, Sleeping Bear Dunes, Tawas Point—Michigan beaches are where humidity goes to lose an argument.

Bonus: sand acts like a full-body exfoliation you didn’t consent to but still needed.

4. Rent a Kayak or Paddleboard

You will either:

  • gracefully glide across glassy water

  • or spend 20 minutes arguing with a paddle and losing

Either way, you’ll be wet and therefore cooler. Victory.

5. Escape Into the Forest Shade

Michigan forests are basically natural climate filters.

Step under the trees and it’s like the sun suddenly got blocked by a very polite bouncer.

 6. Find a Splash Pad (No Shame Zone)

Kids screaming, water spraying everywhere, adults pretending they’re “just supervising.”

Secret truth: everyone there is having the same emotional experience—relief.

7. Cold Drink Patio Strategy (With Maximum Shade)

Order something icy. Sit somewhere shady. Do absolutely nothing.

This is not laziness. This is advanced heat survival technique.

 8. Indoor Attractions That Feel Like Arctic Expeditions

  • Movie theaters

  • Museums

  • Malls still clinging to air conditioning like it’s 1998

Walk in sweating, walk out mildly confused and frozen.

 9. “Air Conditioning Drive”

Sometimes the car is the destination.

You don’t need a plan. You need vents pointed at your face and a questionable excuse to keep driving.

 10. Wait for a Michigan Thunderstorm

Michigan heat always overplays its hand… then storms show up like, “enough of that.”

Sudden rain. Loud sky. Temperature drop. Emotional relief. Nature’s reset button.

 Final Chill Thought

In Michigan, summer doesn’t get defeated—it just gets interrupted by lakes, ice cream, and unpredictable weather drama.

So when the heat hits hard, remember:
you don’t fight Michigan summer… you out-cool it.

Michigan Fireworks Rules EXPOSED: What's Legal Could Surprise You (And What Could Cost You BIG)

Michigan Fireworks Laws: What You Can Light, What Might Get You a Knock on the Door, and What Definitely Belongs at the Big Professional Show

Michigan in July is basically two things:

  1. Mosquitoes with ambition

  2. Neighbors suddenly becoming amateur pyrotechnic critics

So before you turn your driveway into a mini Times Square, here’s a fun guide to what fireworks are actually legal in Michigan—and what will get you the “who invited NASA?” look from local authorities.

First: The Big Rule of Thumb

Michigan allows consumer fireworks, but only during specific windows:

  • June 29 – July 4

  • December 31

  • January 1 (until 1 a.m.)

Outside those dates? Your fireworks basically go into hibernation like a bear with legal paperwork.

What You CAN Light (The Legal Party Pack)

These are the “buy it at a tent by the highway” classics:

 Aerial fireworks

These are the sky-fillers:

  • Roman candles (the spicy ones that shoot glowing balls into the night)

  • Bottle rockets (little sky gremlins)

  • Cakes / multi-shot fireworks (the “why did I only buy one?” category)

  • Fountains (ground-based sparkle storms)

Basically: if it goes up and makes your neighbors stop talking mid-sentence, it’s probably in this group.

 Ground fireworks

For when you want drama, but keep it earthbound:

  • Fountains

  • Wheels

  • Sparklers (tiny handheld chaos wands)

  • Smoke devices (aka “accidental apocalypse aesthetic”)

Sparklers are legal… but also responsible for an impressive number of “I thought it was already out” moments.

What You CANNOT Light (The “Nice Try” Section)

Michigan draws the line at fireworks that feel like they were designed by a cartoon villain:

  • Firecrackers

  • Cherry bombs

  • M-80 style explosives

  • Any “display fireworks” (professional-grade stuff)

If it sounds like something a superhero defuses in the final act, it’s probably illegal for backyard use.

The Hidden Boss Level: Local Rules

Even if Michigan says “yes,” your city might say:

“Actually… no, not here, not like that, and definitely not at 11:47 p.m.”

Some cities add:

  • Earlier cutoff times (often around 11 p.m. or midnight)

  • Noise restrictions

  • Complete bans in certain areas

Translation: Always check your local ordinance unless you enjoy surprise fines or awkward conversations with a flashlight-wielding neighbor.

Pro Tip: The “Don’t Be That Person” Checklist

  • Don’t launch fireworks toward houses (or ambition)

  • Don’t relight anything that didn’t go off (that’s how action movies start)

  • Don’t assume “it’s probably fine” is legal advice

  • Do keep water nearby like you’re hosting a dragon convention

 Final Spark

Fireworks in Michigan are basically a limited-time event where everyone collectively agrees:

“Yes, we will tolerate loud explosions because freedom is noisy.”

So enjoy the legal window, respect the rules, and maybe don’t try to recreate a stadium show in your driveway unless you’re also prepared to explain yourself to an insurance company.

Stay safe, stay bright, and let the sky do the bragging for you.
